Babcock Marine

DML is now part of the Babcock International Group and has been renamed Babcock Marine. We are focused on rapidly expanding our traditional refit and maintenance roles by working at the earlier stages of warship design and construction programmes and the design and implementation of capability upgrades for both military and civilian projects. As well as refitting the Surface and Nuclear Submarine fleets for the Royal Navy, our operation currently includes the overhaul of Inter-City High Speed Trains, the refit and build of luxury super yachts and lifeboats, and the manufacture of specialist 4WD vehicles for the armed forces. Our in depth understanding of nuclear engineering is also allowing us to successfully expand into the Civil Nuclear industry. Our key refitting facilities are centred at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. The largest marine support complex in Western Europe, the site covers 330 acres, has 11 operational dry docks, five basins and five kilometres of deep water berths with a wide range of support workshops. Devonport is complemented by additional facilities at Appledore Shipyard in North Devon where we have an extensive marine construction facility. Also part of the Group are LSC, our logistics support specialists, and Fraser Nash, a design consultancy, both of whom enhance our already extensive portfolio of design and support competencies. We have a global reputation and the client base to match. So you can expect our graduate training scheme to be equally impressive. The four year programme offers exceptional exposure to world class projects. During the first two years, you’ll gain the kind of broad experience across the business that provides solid foundations for progressive careers, and sharpen your skills in production, project and commercial management, facilities engineering, health and safety, quality and design. Then you’ll be armed with the knowledge essential to deciding on your specialist area, where you’ll spend the next two years playing a key role in major projects. Throughout you’ll have your own mentor to support and work with you, ensuring you get the very best from the programme. There’ll also be a group of senior managers on hand, committed to helping you achieve chartered status. Which should be straightforward given that we’re accredited by most major engineering institutions. The immediate rewards are just as attractive. In addition to a generous training salary that’s reviewed every six months, there’s a £1,000 welcome bonus, £600 towards your relocation and, if you need it, a £4,000 interest free loan. All professional fees are paid for by the business, you’ll be able to join the company pension scheme and qualify for free membership of the lively Sports and Social Club. In terms of location things are just as impressive as you’ll be based in Plymouth, a vibrant town with an excellent nightlife plus loads of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. While the overall Graduate Scheme details may vary slightly for non-engineering entrants, you must have a 2.2 or above in a degree recognised by the professional institutions. Applications are considered from graduates in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, Chemical Process, IT/Business Systems or a Business related degree. We welcome applications regardless of, gender, disability, sexual preference, religion, colour, racial or ethnic origin, age, or responsibility for dependants. Successful candidates will be selected solely on their ability to carry out the duties of the post. Because of the nature of UK defence related activity we undertake, we are unable to consider applicants who do not have exclusively British Nationality.
