Environment Agency

The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate. As an executive agency of government, we play an important part in regulating the government’s approach to combat the effects of climate change and reduce carbon emissions nationwide. Nuclear is at the heart of the government’s energy strategy and the Environment Agency is responsible for regulating the environmental safety of the nuclear sector and the effective husbandry and management of radioactive substances and radioactive waste in other sectors of the economy.
