Exxon Mobil Corporation is the world's premier petroleum and petrochemical company with a presence in some 200 countries and territories around the world. It is the parent company of the Esso, Mobil and ExxonMobil companies that operate in the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom in 2004 we: - invested £318 million in our upstream, downstream and chemical operations - provided jobs for some 5,000 employees and around 2,000 contractors - paid £5.1 billion in direct and indirect taxes and duties - about 1.1 per cent of the total UK government revenue - invested around £2.4 million on community projects and initiatives. Offshore Oil & Gas - since first exploration in 1964 we have invested over £17 billion - more than £30 billion at today's prices - in the UK's offshore oil and gas industry - we have an interest in some 90 producing offshore fields and hold the second largest licensed acreage on the UK Continental Shelf - we produce around 11 per cent of the UK's total oil production and 14 per cent of the UK's total gas production. Refining & Marketing - our refinery at Fawley on Southampton Water is the largest in the UK - we operate the largest privately-owned underground oil pipeline distribution network in the UK - we fuel one-in-six cars through around 1,080 service stations - we market world-leading motor oils - Mobil 1 and Esso Ultron - and supply more than 500 different types of lubricants for industry. Chemicals - our Fawley site produces over a million tonnes of chemical products every year - we are the major European manufacturer of halobutyl rubber - our ethylene plant at Fife is one of the largest in Europe - it has an annual capacity of 830,000 tonnes.
