At Granta Design, we adopt a customer-led approach to specify, develop, and deliver software that helps you to get more from materials information. Our technology and expertise originate in Cambridge University and are reinforced through extensive industry partnerships. We help enterprises manage, analyze, and apply critical data in the engineering process, improving quality and efficiency, while reducing risk. Our inspirational teaching toolkit is central to engineering and other courses at hundreds of universities and colleges. People & history Granta originates from a materials engineering software collaboration between Professor Mike Ashby and Dr David Cebon at Cambridge University. More on Granta's people... Founded in 1994, and initially focused on teaching, our technology developed to support industrial materials and process optimization. ASM International, the world’s largest professional society for materials engineering, invested in Granta in May 2000 and became a key strategic partner. Customer needs drove us to address wider issues of materials information management, analysis, and deployment in enterprises. Working with customers including members of the Material Data Management Consortium (MDMC), a collaborative project of top engineering organizations, we developed GRANTA MI to meet these requirements. Technical leadership Granta's "firsts" include: Ashby charts and materials performance indices, pioneering approaches in systematic materials selection; the first manufacturing process selector; unique materials data checking and estimation procedures; the only enterprise materials information management system for the complete materials data lifecycle. Ownership & partners Granta is a private company owned by its founders, employees, the University of Cambridge, and ASM International. We work closely with customers, individually and via collaborations such as the MDMC.
