SEM the Company SEM designs, manufactures and supplies servomotors to drive manufacturers, system integrators and large OEMs worldwide. SEM was founded in 1914 and has been manufacturing servomotors for 30 years. SEM focuses on the design, development and manufacture of its own motors and does not produce servodrives or any kind of control electronics. This is seen as a positive advantage by SEM's customers, many of whom are manufacturers or distributors of servodrives and controllers. Location SEM is located in Orpington, a suburb of south east London in a new 5,000 sq.m (54,000 sq.ft) custom built factory. SEM is ideally located with quick and easy access to the UK’s major motorways, international and private airports, and channel ports. Product Ranges SEM’s core products are brushless and brushed servomotors. These motors are used in motion control applications such as machine tools, robots, printing, packaging and process equipment where accurate control and positioning are required. SEM prides itself on being able to offer customised designs based on a core range of motors as well as a standard range that offers both price and delivery advantages. Markets Exports account for over 90% of output and support facilities are available in most markets. For several years, bilingual Sales Engineers have been employed at SEM and this has helped SEM achieve this high level of international sales. Quality Standards SEM holds BS EN ISO 9001:2000 together with UL recognition for a major part of our product range. Product Development The well-equipped SEM design team continues to keep abreast of new materials and manufacturing techniques. This knowledge is used to full advantage in the development of cost effective servomotors with optimum performance. Manufacturing SEM continually invests in new development, production and test equipment and systems. The target is always to increase throughput and flexibility to ensure a competitive edge is maintained. Stock As well as producing customer specific servomotors, SEM produces standard HR, HRS, HJ and HDM brushless servomotors fitted with resolver feedback which can be supplied ex-stock.
