Although as a Group Ultra is a global corporate company, each business within the Group has its own individual identity and, on a day to day basis, operates with total autonomy. This allows each business to define and develop its own personality and maintain the dynamics of an entrepreneurial environment within the security of a corporate framework. Whatever the cultural model adopted by the individual business’s they all share a common commitment to, and responsibility for, the groups five year rolling business plan which is a key measurement of each business.

The Company has 3 business areas:
Power Systems – Primarily defence related systems for naval vessels, surface ships and submarines. By evolving our unique ability to package motors and drives PMES visualises significant growth opportunities for its new power dense motors and drives in existing and new and exciting defence and commercial markets. The current turnover is approximately 40% of the total PMES turnover.

Rail Systems – Providing a turnkey supply of DC trackside power equipment in the form of complete sub stations or simply products such as Transformer Rectifier Units.
It is the company’s intent over the next 5 years to expand its rail footprint in both UK and overseas and also enter the civil nuclear / energy market.

Underwater Measurement Systems – A worldwide market with a solid incumbent position within the UK providing magnetic, acoustic and electric multi influence ranges which measure ships signatures. The customer base is most likely to be Government agencies, shipyards or prime contractors. We also align this capability to onboard signature control in the form of Onboard Degaussing (OBDG) systems. We also provide a range of airborne sensors for use primarily in UAV’s.
