Works Mechanical Engineer A vacancy has arisen for a Works Mechanical Engineer to be base at BAE Systems Glascoed, Usk. As a Works Mechanical Engineer you will provide Glascoed with an engineering resource to identify and resolve engineering and operational problems impacting on the performance & profitability of the Business.The position exists to manage, plan, coordinate and control the engineering resources engaged in the delivery of mechanical engineering and technical services to Glascoed and support the approved capital plan. As a Works Mechanical Engineer your main responsibilities will involve: Direct & control the management of the mechanical engineering and technical resources to meet the requirements of the approved capital plan, maintenance/revenue schemes to comply with the performance, time & cost constraints.Provide and direct a works’ support resource to achieve plant improvements and to ensure the effective implementation of assigned maintenance & revenue schemes in both Mechanical and Process Tool and Calibrations fields.Advise & liaise with senior & works’ management to develop the major maintenance & revenue plans.Direct & control the preparation of soundly based, innovative, least cost solutions to achieve operational improvements and financial benefits.Ensure that designated responsibilities under COMAH regulations are implemented and applied within area of responsibility.Validate engineering proposals, estimated costs, programmes & strategies for submission to works business management for implementation.Ensure compliance with all statutory legislation (inc ATEX, DSEAR, MSER, COMAH), business policies, regulations & standards throughout the implementation of the design & construction where applicable. Authorise within agreed limits purchases of engineering equipment to ensure consistency, validity of approach, minimal risk, conformance to standards & regulations and compliance with installation & operational requirements.Plan & implement training needs & management development/competency of engineers to provide for the long-term future support to Glascoed. As a Works Mechanical Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include: Be capable of managing & directing a team of senior engineers and shop floor personnel employed to manage all aspects of mechanical related work.Broad knowledge of engineering, process operations & project management to establish strategies & policies and be aware of emerging technologies, equipment & direction in the markets in order to gain commercial advantage for the business.Educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline, with preferred chartered membership of the appropriate professional institution (or be working towards it).Proven experience in handling multi-disciplined resources and a large task portfolio, wide knowledge mechanical standards together with a working knowledge of contracting and engineering activities.Working knowledge of Hazard Area and ATEX classification, LOLER & PUWER Regulations. IOSH managing safely qualification and ideally NEBOSH qualification.Knowledge of FMEA and RCM skills. Some formal management training would be advantageous. What we're looking for in you We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a proactive attitude, maturity to interact and influence cross functionally at all levels and ability to demonstrate drive and commitment from previous roles. You should have strong management skills to manage the team who are responsible for all of the mechanical related worked. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills are also essential. Grade Band 5 Salary £37,900 depending on salary + bonus Interviews are going to take place in early January.
