Role: Senior Civil/Structural Engineer (Nuclear + Defence)
Location: Glasgow

I am looking to place a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer with Nuclear and Defence experience in an international consultancy’s Glasgow office. You will be able to operate at conceptual stage, conduct design analysis/modifications and eventually support construction where required. You will contribute to a variety of nuclear new-build / refurbishment schemes, decommissioning projects, facilities for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and other private firms that support defence-related projects, with project values running in to the £billions.

The Work
From a technical standpoint, you will design and assess complex structures for static and dynamic loading, impacts, vibration, blast/impact analysis and mechanical handling. It is highly desirable that you have an understanding of non-linear buckling behaviour, soil-structure interaction and safety critical design for nuclear facilities or willing to develop your skills in these areas.

About you
Ideally, you will have previous experience within the defence and/or nuclear industry working for large consultants or directly for energy/defence organisations. You will have relevant education of Civil/Structural Engineering either through the HNC/HND or Degree routes, with a professional membership with either the ICE/IStructE preferred. For those not yet Chartered, the firm has a wide variety of professional development schemes to help you attain Chartership with your chosen professional body. Your experience will help to support the delivery of new-build nuclear energy schemes, decommissioning projects and defence facilities that affect the whole of the UK’s energy supply and national security.

Role Requirements:
  • Relevant education Civil/Structural Engineering (HNC/HND/Degree)
  • Working towards / already hold Chartered ICE/IStructE membership
  • Relevant experience within Civil/Structural Engineering in a Nuclear/Defence/Industrial setting
  • SC Clearance (current / can obtain)
    • UK National
  • British Standards / Eurocodes experience
