Further information

This is an excellent opportunity for an Economist or Quantitative Analyst with an interest in applying their skills in the area of sustainability within business and government environmental policy.

As an Economist, your primary responsibility will be to analyse technical data and research and then draw coherent conclusions and recommendations. Much of the work requires problem-solving abilities and the confidence to identify insights that can be presented to busy senior managers or policymakers. You will be encouraged to develop areas of expertise and to build a reputation for original thinking.

The types of questions that consultants have been researching include: How much could businesses save if they became more resource efficient? What could be the impact of speciality metal supply disruptions on renewable energy? What is the potential value of nanotechnologies to the UK economy?

To succeed as Economist/ Quantitative Analyst you will be qualified to post graduate level in Economics or a related quantitative discipline, will be highly numerate and experienced in analysis and interpretation of data and able to prepare reports in English for senior management and policymakers. You must also be able to demonstrate your interest in the integration of the concept of sustainability within business and policy.

You will be someone who thrives in an environment where you need to quickly assimilate and understand issues on a wide variety of sustainability issues. The company`s research is regularly used to define government policy and business strategy, and so you must be able to provide a defence of your research findings.

The post of Economist/ Quantitative Analyst involves evaluating and processing large amounts of information and presenting a clear reasoned argument on a particular topic to the client. The role will require senior-level interaction with clients, government and industry and demands that you work to tight pre-defined deadlines. The company encourages their consultants to tender and win new work and also look for new business opportunities, and this role reflects this environment.

Previous consultancy experience is not necessary for this role, but you will be qualified to at least graduate level, indicating an ability to work on your own initiative, to carry out research to a high standard, and to apply intelligence to solving problems. The qualities we are looking for include: the experience to assess which information - gathered from a wide variety of sources - is valuable and relevant, the skill to synthesise this information, and a facility to present the results to clients and a wider audience.
