The client design, develop, manufacture and market aerospace products allied to both the defence and civil sectors globally, and as a result of continued success and a strategic programme of planned growth for 2012, are seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic CNC Programmer / Tooling Designer to complement their established and successful team. Working as part of the dynamic composite components team within the Manufacturing function, the successful candidate will provide technical support for process machining of composite components (both conventional and CNC) and the design, manufacture and maintenance of tooling for composite component manufacture.
To be considered for this varied and challenging role, you will have previously successfully completed an Engineering apprenticeship and will be educated to at least HNC level in a relevant discipline and will essentially possess previous technical experience in a composite manufacturing environment. With comprehensive knowledge of tool and fixture design and NC programming experience using advanced Design and CAD/CAM software tools (CATIA V4 and V5 are preferred although training can be provided), you will create fully detailed NC fixture designs for internal or external manufacture and create NC programming of parts using CATIA V4 or V5, whilst supporting program verification at the machine in conjunction with the machine operatives, as well as creating fully detailed tooling and equipment designs where appropriate utilising advanced CATIA processes.
You will prepare specifications, interfacing with contractors, obtaining quotations, raising purchase documentation and procuring products or services to support the departmental outputs and both manage and be responsible for the process from initial concept through to new product introduction to product sustainment & repair, providing technical support and interacting with design, supply and operational teams in order to ensure effective and efficient specification and development of components before and during manufacture, and providing specialist technical support for specific manufacturing research & development projects where appropriate.
Additionally you will liaise with Production for the effective discharge of work you conduct on their behalf, reporting any potential slippage and agreeing recovery against targets and providing technical support to the management team for non-conformance elimination, proactively implementing techniques and problem solving tools to identify root cause, containment and corrective action plans to eliminate re-occurrence, and following a steady improvement philosophy in the discharge of the role by reviewing the methods, processes, and policies and identifying, proposing and implementing potential improvements.
