Want to be part of the crew keeping London safe? Our 3-year HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Technician Apprenticeship offers you the chance to be at the heart of the action, ensuring the London Fire Brigade's iconic fire engines are always ready for duty.

About the programme
When red lights flash and sirens blaze, London relies on its fire engines being roadworthy. You'll learn how to be proactive and act safely so these critical vehicles are never out of action.

You'll be assigned a mentor who will guide you for the first two years of your apprenticeship, teaching you how to service and repair HGV and specialist fire vehicles. Putting theory into practice, you'll work hands-on servicing and fixing issues on the 400+ vehicle London Fire Brigade fleet.

  • Based at Ruislip, you'll train alongside experienced technicians servicing a range of equipment from 32m turntable ladders to cutting-edge electric fire engines.
  • Using state-of-the-art tools, you'll become a specialist in complex fire engine repairs. It's challenging but hugely rewarding work upholding the readiness of emergency response vehicles across the capital.
  • There are also opportunities to get involved in defence equipment maintenance, support our Marine Fireboat team or go out on the road with our mobile repair crews.
  • This is a great time to join as we continue the process to modernise the fleet with renewable fuels, decarbonisation initiatives, cross-skilling schemes and more complex repairs. If you love solving technical challenges, you'll love it here.

Your education/training:
As part of your apprenticeship, you will study for an IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) Level 3 qualification through Remit Training Academy.

What you'll need:

  • 3 GCSEs at grades C/D (or equivalent) including English, Maths and ICT.

Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them reuire you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

We will provide you with a supportive and engaging environment where you can grow your career.

In addition, you'll benefit from:

  • Fully funded qualification
  • Personal development training and opportunities
  • Minimum 28 days holiday allowance including bank holidays
