The role
As a Senior Engineer - Submarine Combat Systems, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Joining the combat system assurance and support sections, you will play a pivotal part in providing assurance and support under the Chief Engineer.

Day-to-day, you'll provide proactive technical support to our MOD customer, working collaboratively with other stakeholders across Babcock and the wider submarine enterprise as well as:

  • Administering a database which provides assurance of weapon discharge equipment availability in Astute Class submarines
  • Conducting supporting audits of equipment holdings and test certification
  • Representing submarine combat systems engineering activity in key internal and external meetings, working collaboratively with industry partners
  • Acting as an internal subject matter expert on submarine combat systems, providing advice, facilitating coherent information exchange and conducting engineering peer reviews
  • Delivering in house combat system competency training

This position involves occasional travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.

This role is full time, 35-hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of two days in the office/on site and the remainder working from home.

Essential experience of the Senior Engineer - Submarine Combat Systems

  • Submarine combat systems including the submarine weapon system from an operational engineering perspective
  • Experience and understanding of maintenance requirements
  • An excellent communicator at all levels, both written and verbal.
  • Capable of using Excel to populate a database
  • Have experience of working with, or as part of, MOD/Royal Navy authorities and sound knowledge of their organisational structure, working practices and policies

Qualifications for the Senior Engineer - Submarine Combat Systems

  • A degree in an engineering related discipline, HNC/HND (or equivalent) or relevant engineering experience
  • You are a member of a professional engineering institute or actively working towards it

Security Clearance The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
