Job Title: Supportability Engineer
Location: Stoke Gifford, Bristol + Hybrid Working Arrangements
Compensation: up to £44,044 DOE + Benefits
Role Type: Full time / Permanent
Role ID: SF54372

At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Supportability Engineer at our Bristol site.

The role
As a Supportability Engineer you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll join a team working on one of the most complex support arrangements in operation in the UK today. You will manage this by ensuring that you know what is fitted to every Royal Navy submarine, where it is fitted, who supplies it and how it is fitted.

Day to day, you'll provide support at the Waterfront and be responsible for design information management. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the configuration data and datum pack records for all items as fitted to Royal Navy submarines as per the Configuration Management Plan
  • Maintaining a record of the status of extant submarine Technical Documentation to ensure Quality Assurance is achieved and maintained
  • Ensuring all Design Change Management documentation is managed and maintained correctly within the Submarine Definition Database
  • Working as part of a team as a subject matter expert across Babcock, the Royal Navy, MoD and industry partners

This role is full time, working a 36-hour week. We offer flexible hybrid working, however, you will be required to work on site in Bristol at least 2 days per week. The position is adaptable and can be based at various sites, including Clyde or Devonport (rather than Bristol).

Essential experience of the Support Engineer:

  • Experience in using engineering documentation (such as drawings and technical records)
  • Understanding of change management and the control of project and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, challenge the status quo and make judgments based on incomplete information is essential
  • Strong communication skills and ability to converse at all levels

Qualifications for the Support Engineer:

  • HNC/BTEC Level 4 qualified in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics discipline, however, we will consider applicants that can demonstrate relevant vocational experience if this isn't held
  • Hold, or be willing to proactively work towards, professional recognition as an Incorporated Engineer with an appropriate Engineering Institution

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.

Our Benefits

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance
  • Employee share scheme
  • Employee shopping savings portal
  • Payment of Professional Fees
  • Reservists in the armed forces receive 10-days special paid leave
  • Holiday Trading is a benefit that allows most employees to buy additional leave or to sell up to one working week of annual leave from their annual entitlement
  • 'Be Kind Day' enables employees to take one working day's paid leave a year (or equivalent hours) to undertake volunteering work with their chosen organisation or registered charity
