A range of engineering degrees at the University of Northampton have received accreditation from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Courses now recognised by IMechE include the university’s BEng/MEng Mechanical Engineering, BSc Engineering, MSc Engineering, and MSc Lift Engineering. Northampton’s BEng/MEng Electromechanical Engineering degree was already accredited by IMechE.

“We are delighted with the accreditation, which recognises the exceptional courses we offer here at the University of Northampton,” said Jon Adams, head of engineering.

“It will give our engineering students an advantage in the jobs market, and opens up a route to employment with some of the very best companies, which favour recruit graduates from IMechE-accredited degrees.”

According to Northampton, IMechE inspectors praised a number of aspects of the university’s engineering programme, including its relevance to industry; the staff; the exam support offered to students; and the combination of theory, practice and computation.

Engineering students play a key role in Northampton’s Formula Student programme, started in 2014. This year’s event is due to take place at Silverstone from 14-17 July.
