You will be working on the software development for the UK Royal Navy’s new surface ship platform, the Type 26, whilst maintaining all the other surface ship platforms. You will also be involved in the production of technical documentation and test scripts.

Vacancies exist to join the Core Applications Group which is part of the CMS-1 Product Group.

The group is responsible for the core applications software products used in the Combat Management System (CMS-1), currently deployed on several naval platforms.

The software developed and maintained by the group handles the interfaces to the platforms’ sensors and weapons, the collation and presentation of associated information to naval crew for command and control purposes, plus tactical planning and training facilities.

A wide variety of work is undertaken within the group, and team members are working on all stages of the software lifecycle, as the projects supported are all at different stages. As such, work may range from the elaboration of software requirements through to the resolution of defects reported from in-service platforms.

The Core Applications Group Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, maintenance and documentation of the CMS-1 core applications software products.

The role will include specific responsibilities to:

* Design, implement and integrate changes to the core applications software
* Production of Ada 95 code in accordance with company coding standards
* To participate in project acceptance in house and potentially at other sites
* Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with the current processes and procedures
* Liaise directly with area Team Leader or Technical Authority; including reporting progress, agreeing priorities, highlighting risks, threats, opportunities and dependencies
* Liaise directly with other CMS-1 Product teams to ensure good ‘cross team’ communication
* Ensure the interests of the CMS-1 product are considered alongside the needs of projects.

Required skills:

* Ada or Ada 95 experience
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and streams of work
* Good communication skills
* Ability to effectively communicate risks and opportunities to the area Team Leader or Technical Authority.

The Individual



* Ada development skills must be excellent with, ideally, 5+ years of experience, but must have recent experience within the last 12 months.
* Other skills that will strengthen your application include: C++, Rational Rose.
* Experience of all aspects of the S/W lifecycle, such as: requirement definition, high & low level designs, integration, testing and product delivery.
* Experience of working on large software developments.
* Interpersonal skills – Highly motivated, proactive, organised, inclusive team worker.
* You will need to have current SC clearance.
