My Client within Gatwick Airport, is seeking a Chartered Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer.

Principal accountabilities

Expected to initiate and maintain extensive contacts with key engineers and officials within Gatwick Airport and other organisations and companies.

The Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer requires experience and skills in persuasion and negotiations of critical issues. Suited to a driven and self-motivated individual this position will display clear leadership and must be able to collaborate on a technical and practical level with all parties, both internal and external.

The mechanical engineering systems will include but are not limited to the following infrastructure across the airport:

* Heating, Ventilation and Cooling systems to include Natural Gas and compressed air.
* Public Health services including all potable, domestic and sprinkler / hose reel water systems as well as above and below ground drainage.
* Building Management Systems
* Passenger Sensitive Equipment (PSE) including Lifts, Escalators and Passenger Conveyors (LEPC) as well as the inter-terminal transit system and suspended access equipment.
* Energy and Carbon in the context of sustainability.
* Acting as the technical lead in the design, installation, use and decommissioning of all Mechanical engineering systems across Gatwick, and operating as the responsible engineer (to administer statutory schemes such as PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, ACOP L8), at a strategic level, for any activities regarding Mechanical Engineering and permits to work.
* The Principal Engineer will also author and administer all technical standards and standard operating procedures which fall under their subject knowledge.

Qualifications and experience

* The individual will be a Chartered member of Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) or the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) with experience in the design of simple self-contained building services and centralised heating and cooling networks for major infrastructure in the mass transit sector (such as aviation, rail or ports) to relevant CIBSE, BSRIA and British standards.
* Knowledge of thermal modelling, BEEAM, fluid dynamics and CFD would be advantageous to this role.
* The expectation will be for the Principal Mechanical Engineer to drive forward the Gatwick Engineering contribution towards meeting its decade of change targets for energy, water and carbon and therefore knowledge of low/ zero carbon design and technology in both new build and refurbishment projects as well as knowledge of Building Regulations is important.
