Senior Flood Risk/Drainage Engineer

Location: Nottingham

We are looking to fill a role for a senior Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer for a multidisciplinary firm just North of Nottingham. The ‘Flood Solutions’ team are looking for a Senior Water Engineer who has experience of dealing with Local Authorities, can lead a team of junior civil engineers/technicians and has experience of preparing Flood Risk Assessments. The role will feature the opportunity to work with both static and flowing water in both urban and natural environments i.e. sewers, drainage, highways, static and flowing water. Ideally, you will have previous experience of both types of water engineering and can work to various Section Agreements when required.

The company works closely with various water authorities and environment agencies, in the surrounding counties as well as private clients. The company itself covers a broad spectrum of services and this role allows for multidisciplinary projects that require interdepartmental collaboration. This is an exciting time to become part of, and lead, a growing team of enthusiastic water engineers, hydrologists, technicians and graduates. Hence, an ability to mentor other employees is a highly desirable trait for any applicant.

The most important factor for this particular role is experience. Whilst a high-quality degree education would be useful, those who have taken the HNC/HND route into industry and have accumulated solid experience of working in water engineering would also be very desirable. No specific software knowledge is required, but the ability to understand technical specifications and modelling outputs from programmes such as ISIS, TUFLOW, Microdrainage, Civils3D, etc would be useful. Chartership with either the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is desirable, but not as important as relevant experience.

Job Requirements:
  • Experience of working with urban and natural water projects
  • HNC/HND route into industry or Master’s Degree in Civil/Water Engineering
  • Experience of Flood Risk Assessments/Flood Resilience Planning
  • Experience of large-scale civil water projects
  • Previous experience of working with local flood authorities/Environment agency
  • Planning/designing SuDS
  • Leading/mentor other team members
  • Chartered with ICE/CIWEM (desirable)
  • Experience of ISIS / TUFLOW / other relevant modelling software (desirable)
