Responsibilities:

The Motor control specialist is responsible for:

1 Designing motor control algorithms.
2 Working with sales, marketing and engineering to define product specifications
3 Research in to new / novel motor control algorithms.
4 Coding, validating and debugging where changes to software are required.
5 Documentation of coding and validation.
6 Providing support to the development department for all aspects of motor control.
7 Providing support to the applications department for all aspects of motor control.
8 Ensuring that Motor Control development follows the company processes and quality procedures.
9 Supervision and guidance of junior engineers and technicians.



Reporting: The reporting structure is as follows:

1 The Motor Control Specialist reports to the Chief Control Specialist.
2 Issues which cannot be resolved with the immediate manager go to the Head of Research.
3 Junior Engineers and Engineering technicians may at times report to the post holder.



Performance:

1 Your performance will be measured by a combination of quantitative, qualitative and subjective means. You will be assessed by your peer group and senior management. Your performance will be measured by:-
2 Meeting project timescales
3 Meeting product specifications
4 Meeting product cost targets
5 Adherence to company procedures
6 Quality of work



Qualifications:

1 Degree level or higher in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, with some modules covering machines and drives.



Various motor technologies including some or all of the following:

1 Permanent Magnet Motors (interior and surface)
2 Induction Motors
3 Switched reluctance Motors
4 DC motors



3-phase Motor inverters including some or all of the following:

1 PWM (pulse width modulation)
2 Position encoders
3 Electric Vehicles / Battery powered systems



Control methods including some or all of the following:

1 Vector control
2 Scalar control
3 PI control loops
4 Sensorless control
5 Field weakening

Software / Simulation tools, some experience of the following is preferable:

1 Embedded real time coding
2 Coding in C
3 Matlab / Simulink

Personal attributes:

1 Must be able to think outside the box
2 Must be a team player and also able to work alone with minimum guidance
3 Structured individual with good problem solving and analytical skills
4 Able to deliver a project on time
