The Role:
If it wasn’t for safety-critical roles such as this one, the UK rail network would not be able to function.
As the Signalling Tester in Charge you’ll fill an important role for our client, organising and completing the delivery of testing activities for the testing of safety-critical railway signalling systems in accordance with applicable rail standards and project requirements.
Due to the important nature of this position you’ll need to be ready to meet the challenge of working on-site shifts in signalling control centres when required during commissionings. It’s also likely that you’ll need to work unsociable hours / weekends / public holidays including Christmas / New Year and Easter.
However, this is a diverse, varied and above all interesting role that entails the completion of a wide variety of tasks including:
 Planning, organising and ensuring the satisfactory completion and performance of testing for projects to satisfy customer requirements for safety, technical excellence and timescales.
 Maintaining awareness of and ensuring adherence to relevant procedures and standards e.g. Signalling Works Testing Handbook.
 Producing and gaining acceptance for testing strategy for the project.
 Producing and gaining acceptance for Test and Commissioning plans.
 Identification, management and mitigation of risks to successful testing.
 Ensuring that tests are defined and recorded appropriately.
 Verifying the competence of those testers assigned to the project testing and commissioning activities.
 Signing off the testing when completed satisfactorily.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
This is a “Safety Critical” role and the following are essential to perform this role:
 IRSE Tester-in-Charge licence 1.3.190
 Completion of MOD1 course
 Good understanding of relevant procedures and standards

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Additionally, the following are extremely desirable:
 Educated to GCSE, A-level or equivalent
 Completion of Advanced Signalling Technology course
 Work-related experience in signalling testing
