Salary Up to £30,000

The Role

Your responsibilities lie with the manufacture of orthopaedic implants as well as associated instrumentation and tooling, to the tolerances indicated on either standard or patient specific component drawings using CNC, manual mills and lathes. Along with this you may be asked to work on prototypes for product development or batch work to benefit the off-the-shelf stock. You will be asked to recognise all safety procedures, use correct safety equipment and adhere to all QA/QC procedures and working instructions.


* Manufacture of orthopaedic implants and associated instrumentation and tooling.
* Working within specified tolerances and engineering standards.
* Utilising precision measuring equipment in the manufacturing environment.
* Meeting dispatch date deadlines.
* Comply with safety guidelines and preserve a safe working environment.
* To work on your own initiative and in a team.
* Speaking with the design office team to suggest and help with any production matters.
* Manage, accustom, fix and clean workshop equipment and machinery as indicated.
* Complete training and development as and where necessary.
* Complete alternative duties indicated by the workshop manager, as and when necessary.

Qualifications, skills and desirable experience

* To be a time served apprenticeship within the engineering industry is essential. Very good working knowledge of milling machines and centre lathes; both manual and CNC and good knowledge of cylindrical and surface grinding is essential.
* Qualified to a BTEC ONC in engineering would be ideal, but a minimum City and Guilds 205 pt2 is required.
* As a team player you should be able to work closely with other colleagues, and be able to contribute ideas and suggestions in a clear and concise manner.
* High levels of self-motivation and the ability to achieve goals along with a willingness to learn are core values required.
* The nature of the business at SIW means that there are quite often strict deadlines that have to be met, the ability to work under pressure and to give that little bit more is also very important.

What we offer

* Base salary up to £30,000
* 25 days annual holiday entitlement plus statutory bank holidays
* Eligible to participate within the Company pension scheme after 3 months with matched company contributions of up to 5%
* Eligible to participate within the Company’s Group Life Assurance plan on day 1 with 4 times x base salary
* Eligible to participate within the Company’s annual bonus scheme which currently stands at 5% of base salary (1January to 31 December)
