Purpose of role: The Seating business covers a broad range of products for both military and commercial platforms. The Estimator and Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for establishing methods to monitor and achieve product cost targets. This role will be responsible for all aspects of design for manufacture (DfM) assessment, prototyping and production process capture in the delivery of Jankel survivability products. This will be achieved by supporting the project teams in providing estimating and manufacturing guidance and advice on all projects.

Specific Responsibilities

* Interface with the engineering team to ensure manufacturability of design by providing guidance and advice where required.
* Estimate and record component cost throughout the design lifecycle and provide suggestions to the project team to reduce the cost through design changes, material selection, tooling investment and manufacturing processes.

* Support the development, evaluation and implementation of manufacturing process, procedures and best practices to improve quality, reliability and productivity by using LEAN methodologies
* Management of production process issues, risks and opportunities. To work on the investigation of problems, analysing root causes and developing and implementing solutions.

* Create and maintain costed Bill of Materials (BoM’s) that are tracked, updated and reviewed throughout the project lifecycle (bid through to project closure)
* Liaise with the procurement team to support supplier selection and ensure suppliers are supported throughout the project procurement lifecycle.
* Arrange and chair BoM review meetings with the project teams to champion cost reduction activities.
* Participate in project review meetings and provide feedback to the project team on the tracking and progress of the design cost.
* Liaise with production staff to understand the assembly process and provide advice and guidance to the project team on how the design can be improved to reduce the assembly time and process cost.
* Establish and maintain performance metrics, KPI’s, monthly reports, etc.

* Facilitate Gateway reviews used to assess the maturity and delivery of the technology.

Person Specification

Preferred Qualifications

* Machining qualification or relevant experience or,
* Fabrication qualification or relevant experience or,
* Manufacturing qualification and/or equivalent) experience, or
* Manufacturing Engineering qualification and/or equivalent) experience

Experience in cost estimating

* Experience in cost Management
* Understanding of welding, fabrication and machining processes
* Understanding of engineering drawings
* Understanding of tooling requirements
* Understanding of supplier management.
* Experience dealing with Senior and sometimes challenging individuals.
* Understanding of configuration management.
* Understanding of the Project life-cycle
* Lean Manufacturing
* ERP experience (Preferable SAP)
* Willing to travel in UK and internationally as required.
