Associate or Associate Director (Structures)

Salary: £60,000 (negotiable based on experience)

We are currently looking to fill a role for an Associate or Associate Director level Structural Engineer. This role is to take leadership of a number of major projects that our client is currently completing based in Manchester. The projects include a private hospital, Lancaster university campus refurbishment, a mixed retail/commercial project valued at over £200 million and Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2. Further projects will be added to your portfolio as you progress in the role.

This job role is for someone who is used to taking ownership of projects that value £50 million or more. It requires both technical excellence in being able to mentor and lead other engineers, as well as excellent project management skills. You will already be able to manage high-profile projects and are used to dealing with a range of clients.

Chartership with either the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE) is a requirement for this role. You will be required to sign off designs, aid more junior members on their path to chartership as well as give them technical direction when required. There are no particular software requirements but a wide range of experience is preferred.

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to lead their own team of engineers, alongside business development and management opportunities. The right Structural Design Engineer will be looking to develop their long-term career and gain exposure on a range of projects involving the education, residential, cultural and healthcare sectors and others. The role features room for rapid growth in a well-established structural design consultancy.

The applicant will be proactive and able to work well as part of a focused and driven team who strive for excellence and commit to positive, sustainable change within local communities whilst maintaining an awareness of project costs.

Due to the seniority of this role, some travel to London or Edinburgh is expected for meetings with other Associates and Directors.

Job Requirements:
  • Chartered Membership of ICE or IStructE
  • Previous experience overseeing £50m+ projects
  • Experience of design using steel, concrete, timber and masonry
  • Experience of technical, financial and project management of structural design projects
  • Preparation of technical reports, drawings and specifications
  • Experience leading teams of other engineers
  • AutoCAD, STAAD, ETABS, Robot, PROKON (desirable)
