Our client is a world-wide manufacturing organisation, employing thousands of people in a variety of disciplines. Operating from 6 manufacturing sites in Europe and a host of sites globally their product is found in some form or other in every home.

The Role:
The Projects and Overhauls Construction Superintendent is responsible to the Construction Manager for ensuring that Construction Work is planned and delivered to the agreed schedule, cost and quality, without harm to people or process.

* Ensure that construction work is undertaken in a responsible, safety conscious climate meeting both client requirements and current legislation. Ensure application of CDM, Client SHE and Client Engineering Standards on all construction work, to achieve a world class SSHE performance, meet all technical and environmental legislative requirements.

* Ensure compliance to CDM regulations for all Projects. In particular the adherence to ‘construction phase plans’ [formally named ‘Health and Safety Plans] and the collation of information for Health and Safety Files, in line with the regulations

* Ensure that during design development (both pre and post sanction) the Constructability Methodology is fully considered, bringing construction knowledge and experience to all stages of
the project. This will involve ongoing formal and informal discussions with the Projects Managers, Project Engineers, and Designers. This will include involvement in Constructability and Hazcon reviews throughout the design phase of the project.

* Support the Project Engineer by contributing to the preparation of the project schedules and cost estimates at sanction stage to ensure that the project can be delivered in the agreed timescales and costs.

* Responsible for ensuring all resources and materials are in place to progress to the schedule and maintain efficient use of all resources to deliver to the cost effectively.

* Responsible for ensuring a comprehensive and realistic construction plan is in place at all times and that progress is recorded.

* Control and co-ordinates the activities of all contractors engaged during construction. Understand and review all contractor job methods and risk assessments. Ensuring that all requirements are in place to allow effective execution of work on a daily basis without delay.

* Be the point of contact and co-ordination for all appointed contractors and liaison between those contractors and client operational staff, in particular PTW issuers, to ensure that the works can efficiently delivered. Communicating effectively with all parties.

* Ensure all SHE; communications, tool box talks, site visits and audits are carried out as per the Construction Phase Plan, and Major Hazard Reviews.

* Maintain appropriate communication with all project team members to ensure effective decision making is delivered.

* Responsible for delivery of construction to budget through adherence to plan and effective usage of all resources. Monitor costs and feedback on a regular basis any potential for overspend, ensure that the Project Engineer and Construction Manager is made aware of the issues/impact and advise on necessary corrective actions to minimise impact on budget or schedule.

* Deal with any issues that will cause delay or cost impact on an ongoing basis to support the objectives of SHE, Cost, and Schedule delivery. Call for support from the project team if this cannot be resolved by one’s self

* Apply the management of change procedure rigorously ensuring all changes to the issued design are captured with the use of technical queries. Be responsible for generating Construction Changes,and submitting for approval

* Ensure all work is executed to the required quality standards and that quality assurance checks and inspections are carried out, documented and presented to commissioning teams. Issue ‘transfer of responsibilities’ [TOR].

* Keep abreast of construction best practice and look for innovation that will support continuous improvement.
