MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To support the delivery of the Civil, & Cable construction works for major electrical transmission projects to IEC safety, quality and environmental standards whilst ensuring financial and programme targets are met. Projects could vary from new build, replacement, refurbishment or other associated transmission projects. Supporting the Construction Manager in planning, management of and monitoring the construction activities including aspects such as site mobilisation, safety coordination across all Contractors, safety performance measurement and monitoring, leading the relevant site staff and delivering the works to the agreed scope. ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support the Construction Manager in implementing the IEC Safety Management System. Comply with all relevant legislation with a particular focus on CDM and the role of the Principal Contractor. Assist in the preparation of relevant safety documentation. Functional activities may include conducting necessary site inductions, delivery of pertinent safety communications at site, participating in safety leadership tours, incident management and reporting and Safety Observation Reporting. Review of Contractor pre-task planning documentation including method statements & risk assessments to facilitate daily site checks to ensure activities are being carried out safely.



Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

* Significant experience in managing LV or HV cable civils or cable installation contracts through a variety of environments, Agricultural Land, Roads, and Highways.
* Fully conversant in understanding NRSWA and able to monitor installation works in line.
* Able to manage Council Road Dept. opening and closing notices and all other statutory requirements.
* Fully conversant in Safety at Street Works and able to supervise and implement all traffic management controls and safe working practices.
* Traffic Management Knowledge & Experience.
* Experience in directional drilling and or trenchless techniques
* Must be able to identify and understand working restriction of other utility companies’ assets, Gas, Water, Telecomms.
* Experience in understanding HSG47 safe digging techniques and also the installation of temporary works associated with Cable Duct installation, HV Joint Bay Construction.
* Knowledge of Cable & Cable Duct Specifications, both LV & HV.
* Experience of cable jointing and testing.
* Fibre Boxes, Link Boxes, Pull Chamber Construction.
* Duct Roping, Cleaning and testing.
* HV Cable Testing
* Awareness NEC conditions of contract.
* Ability to implement quality assurance and environmental processes.
* Good working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
* Must be computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, word, excel, PP
* Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction and commissioning of either civil, or cable works
* Awareness of regulatory requirements
* Proven ability to lead a team

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

* Street Works - Supervisor
* First Aid
* Fire Marshal
* SP Authorisations – AME/WI2 preferably

MINIMUM CRITERIA

* Significant experience in managing Civil & Cable site construction works for electrical transmission projects.
* NC/HNC or above in related engineering discipline Civil or Electrical.
* Safety trained for managing site construction works e.g. 5 day CITB SMSTS
* Client Authorisations, AME / WI2 is preferable
