Purpose of Position

This role is for a Senior Software Engineer who will join the Product Engineering Group to design and develop Windows Applications and Services, in accordance with the defined requirements, constraints and identified standards. The candidate should be experienced in working throughout the software development lifecycle, developing software for Windows, including the porting of software developed for previous versions of Windows. The candidate should be able to work with little day-to-day supervision, comfortable leading packages of work and experienced in mentoring junior engineers


Breadth and depth of competence in Software Engineering covering the full software development lifecycle, specifically with expertise in:

o Requirements analysis

o UML analysis and design

o Development of new software

o Unit testing

o Software Integration Testing

o Static and dynamic analysis

o Defect analysis, fixing and software support

o Continuous Integration


The candidate will have a good understanding and experience of the software development lifecycle, knowledge of the Bowman system and tactical domain experience is desirable.

Essential areas of experience include:

* C++ development using Visual Studio
* Windows 64bit software development, ideally Windows 10 & Server 2016
* Analysing and debugging integration issues on Windows platforms
* Porting software developed for previous versions of Windows
* Windows SDK
* UML analysis and design
* Working to coding standards
* Configuration management e.g. SVN, Git or similar
* API development / Windows service development

In addition, the following skills and experience are desirable:

* Object oriented design and design patterns
* Windows MFC development
* Windows Authentication including Active Directory
* Working in an Agile (Scrum) environment
* Modern C++ development using C++11
* C# .Net development experience
* Experience of Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management toolset

Required Education & Experience

* BEng / BSc Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent
* Demonstrable experience relevant to the knowledge and skills defined above
* Hold, or be capable of holding clearance
