The Hybrid & Electrical Systems (HES) unit focuses on vehicle hybridisation & electrification. Systems engineering plays a key role in helping our customers design & implement systems of increasing complexity & interconnectivity.

Recently the systems engineering team have been working to deliver a number of diverse projects from the component-level up to whole-vehicle across a variety of vehicle applications. Some examples include:

1 HV battery pack development for premium market
2 Autonomous connected vehicle concept for new market entrant
3 Model-based systems engineering process development for client introducing new system engineering group
4 “PICASSOS” (Proving Integrity of Complex Automotive System of Systems) Research Project

System engineers typically have a significant role to play with regard to the definition of the system, elicitation of the requirements & subsequent design concept. Systems engineer are relied on to utilise their knowledge & experience in order to identify issues or gaps and to prioritise and balance competing targets.

Both model-based & more traditional approaches to systems engineering are employed within the team, largely depending upon the preference or needs of the client.


A new vacancy exists for a Senior Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of different products & technology, with responsibility for ensuring the successful application of systems engineering methodologies in order to provide the best solutions to our clients.

Everyday responsibilities will include:

1 Taking responsibility for delivery of system engineering work products according to cost, quality and operational targets,
2 Communication and cooperation with a multi-disciplinary project delivery team, clients and suppliers
3 Supporting the wider team with regard to understanding a systems engineering approach

The position will be located at Leamington Spa and you could also be expected to work ‘on site’ at the customer location for short periods. You should have a full driving license and be prepared to travel in the U.K and abroad occasionally for customer meetings.


You are a thorough yet pragmatic engineer who applies a sound understanding of the fundamentals of systems engineering to pro-actively ensure that the product is well specified & robustly designed from the start.

You have a clear understanding of importance of systems engineering and its relationship with other engineering disciplines. You are passionate about ensuring that a systematic approach is used and firm in your belief that high-quality decisions made near the start of development will reap significant benefits downstream.

Able to work & communicate well within multi-disciplinary project teams, you are a self-starter, able to make evidence-based decisions, and display a strong “can-do” attitude to match the challenges you will face with equal enthusiasm.

In order to be successful, you will need to seek innovative solutions while working closely with development teams and interfacing with customers within tight timescales.

The successful candidate will be degree qualified in a technical subject and will have a sound theoretical & practical knowledge experience of systems engineering (possibly in accordance with an international standard such as ISO/IEC 15288), either in automotive or another industry. Understanding of automotive systems and technology is an advantage, but lack of such understanding will not be a barrier for the eager learner.

Experience or appreciation of functional safety concepts would be beneficial in this role.

Knowledge in at least one of the following additional areas would be helpful, though not essential for the right candidate:

1 Embedded software or hardware development
2 Control theory/embedded control applications
3 High-voltage applications (60-1000V)
4 Experience of working with networked systems and appreciation of failure modes and consequences, particularly in an automotive context
5 System verification & validation (in-vehicle or Hardware-In-the-Loop)
6 SysML or UML notation, their application within a formal process (e.g. IBM’s Harmony, OOSEM) and use of an appropriate tool (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Raphsody)
