Our client has been established for more than 40 years and are recognised as a market leader in the maintenance, service and repair of a range of automation and materials handling solutions to blue chip clients throughout the UK. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Control Systems Design Compliance Engineer to complement their established and successful team.

Reporting to the Controls Department Manager, the successful Senior Control Systems Design Compliance Engineer will enhance the existing control system department in order to deliver best in class designs and operational excellence to clients, working closely with both the client and fellow Control System Design Engineers to achieve compliance with both project specifications and mandatory contract standards, and ensuring that such compliance can be demonstrated through the generation of appropriate documentation such as Design Substantiation Reports, Compliance Matrices, Safety Validation Reports etc, and that other contract documentation and drawing deliverables are in line with these top level documents.

Able to demonstrate an understanding of customer specifications and individual project control system requirements in order to be able to identify or clarify any contract scope of supply issues, (and where variations to contract are identified, provide technical and commercial justifications for the changes to the Project Manager), you will possess experience with key industry and British Standards to be able to establish EC&I design compliance, and where any non-compliance is identified, provide mitigation for such non-compliance and substantiated alternative design solutions.

Other duties will include producing Design Substantiation Reports to demonstrate how the departments EC&I designs meets the specified client specifications and safety functional requirements of projects, creating Compliance Matrices to demonstrate compliance or non-compliance with client specifications and relevant British Standards, and working to the Project Program to ensure allocated work milestones for the control system design and supply elements of the contract are achieved.

You will be tasked with producing Basis of Design Specifications for review before electrical design commences, Functional Design Specifications and Software Design Specifications that can be used as a design verification document, and associated FAT and SAT documentation as required. You will also be able to produce complex electrical schematic drawings for the control system, general arrangement drawings and cable schedules using AutoCAD Electrical, and essentially produce control system PLC / SCADA / HMI software (on a range of platforms including Siemens, Rockwell and Schneider) as required for each project as required.

With exceptional communication skills and a meticulous approach to problem solving, you will be able to assist with multidisciplinary design risk assessments and with design review meetings with both internal and external customers, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will essentially qualified to degree level in a relevant technical or engineering discipline and realistically demonstrate at least 10 years’ experience gained within an electrical control systems design environment.

Flexible to travel to customer sites when required (a full UK driving licence is essential for the position), additional knowledge of Functional Safety Design and Machinery Safety Design and Regulations and use of the SYSTEMA machine safety verification package, up to date Health and Safety and CDM regulations, and knowledge of VSD’s will prove distinctly advantageous, and you will need to successful progress through the National Security Vetting Procedure.
