Water/Civil Engineer

Location: Bristol

I am looking to fill a role for a Water/Civil Engineer in a large, international engineering consultancy’s Bristol office. The role is to work within a large water-based engineering team, with disciplines including both urban and natural water i.e. sewers, drainage, highways, static and flowing water and more. Previous experience in both areas of water is desirable, though engineers specialising in one area are still encouraged.

The company works closely with various water authorities and environment agencies, in the surrounding counties as well as private clients. The company itself covers a broad spectrum of services and this role allows for multidisciplinary projects that require interdepartmental collaboration. For instance, their current workload includes both Hinkley Point and HS2, alongside numerous other large-scale projects.

The most important factor for this particular role is experience. Whilst a high-quality degree education would be useful, those who have taken the HNC route into industry and have accumulated solid experience of working in the water industry are also very desirable. No specific software knowledge is required, but the ability to understand technical specifications and modelling outputs from programmes such as ISIS, TUFLOW, Microdrainage, Civils3D, etc would be useful. Chartership with either the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is desirable, but not as important as relevant experience.

Job Requirements:
  • Experience of working with urban and natural water projects
  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Water Engineering (or relevant discipline)
  • Chartered with ICE/CIWEM
  • Experience of Flood Risk Assessments/Flood Resilience Planning
  • Experience of large-scale civil water projects
  • Previous experience of working with local flood authorities/Environment agency
  • Planning/designing SuDS
  • Lead/mentor other team members
  • Experience of ISIS / TUFLOW / other relevant modelling software (desirable)
