Head of Maintenance Kent to c£55k neg dep exp

Our client is recognised as a market leader in the print sector and employs more than 3,000 people in numerous countries worldwide. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, highly self-motivated and capable Head of Maintenance to complement their established and professional team. Reporting to the Operations Manager and with direct responsibility for the entire Maintenance department and site service function, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall Operational performance of the Maintenance Department, including the deployment, control and management of engineers, site service team and sub-contractors as required.

As Head of Maintenance, you will be tasked with maintaining service levels or offering additional support as required, and will liaise with the site management team to ensure issues are communicated, and priorities and actions are understood and updates are provided as required. Additionally, you will ensure, through the engineering team on site, there is efficient and effective planned and reactive maintenance at all times and that downtime is minimised. Other duties will include conducting root cause analysis work and providing preventive measures to stop recurrences, and identifying and implementing Preventative Maintenance strategies to ensure longevity and reliability of all assets.

Skilled in leading projects, coordinating staff and directing sub-contractor activities, you will monitor and analyse Technique and CMMS data on a regular basis, looking for trends and identifying areas of improvement whilst ensuring H&S standards and associated legislation (LEV, PAT, LOLER and Fixed Installation testing etc) are maintained and all related documentation is completed accurately and retained as required. With responsibility for the safety and management of associated contractors and visitors, you will be a confident communicator and influencer at all levels, and will attend daily, weekly and monthly management meetings, providing relevant reports where applicable.

Tasked with ensuring that effective PPM is in place for all key assets and that the operation has relevant skills and resources at all times to carry out reactive breakdown maintenance with minimal downtime, you will be targeted on delivering a year on year reduction on machine downtime whilst operating within applicable departmental budgets, and will maintain staffing levels to meet business requirements with Zero Health and Safety incidents attributable to the department.

To be considered for this varied and challenging role it is essential that you be able to demonstrate at least 5 years’ experience as an Engineering Manager in a fast paced manufacturing environment, ideally having experienced a “transitional journey” from a Traditional Engineering Culture to a developed and Lean Culture environment with comprehensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and sustained Continuous Improvement Techniques. You will demonstrate recognised Electrical and Mechanical Qualifications – realistically to at least HNC level or above - and will possess a high level of general technical proficiency allied to Mechanical, Electrical and Control Technology, with formal project management qualifications ie PRINCE2 proving distinctly advantageous, along with a high level of proficiency in the MS suite of packages and a strong appreciation of COSSH and H&S compliance.
