Head of Systems Safety

This is an immediate requirement for a Lead Safety Engineer or Safety Manager with experience of working on complex systems.

A great opportunity has arisen for a Head of Safety to work for a leading systems integration company in the South Wales area. This Head of Safety role will be working on a number of new programmes and products being developed for both the UK and international markets.

JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities for this role

- Manage all systems safety delivery on one of our biggest UK contracts.
- Work with all our Project Safety Engineers and be responsible for the complete system safety case.
- Maintain and develop the business’ safety capability including the management of safety staff.
- Provide independent assurance as the company’s internal Independent Safety Authority (iISA) for several key avionics programmes.
- Provide safety leadership in corporate safety management including the company’s DAOS, AS9100 and ISO9001 schemes.

Requirements for this role

- Demonstrable breadth and depth of experience/competence in Safety Engineering for large scale system of systems, or a background that provides the equivalent transferrable experience / competence.
- Demonstrable ability to lead a Safety Engineering capability.
- Competence in the following areas:
--- System and product safety case plans and reports
--- Software Safety
--- Fault Tree and Event Tree Analysis
--- Modular Safety Cases and Goal Structuring Notation (GSN)
--- Def Stan 00-55; 00-56; IEC 61508; JSP 454; DO-254; DO-178B and C;
--- HAZOPS
--- Safety Integrity Levels (SILs)
--- Legislative compliance and knowledge of current/future safety and environmental legislation
--- CCA
--- OHHA/OSHA
--- COSHH/MSDS
--- Environmental Management
- A demonstrable ability to think at the systems level and innovate.
- A demonstrable ability to build effective relationships.
