The Design Engineer fulfils both design engineering and documentation control functions within the Drawing Office team.

We require a Design Engineer with:

• A good understanding of engineering drawing and drawing office practices, matched with a wide knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering materials is essential for this role. The ability to adapt and apply proven principles and formulas to engineering problems is vital.
• The Design Engineer is expected to be proficient in MS Office, 2 & 3D CAD and the use of MRP systems. Most importantly the Design Engineer must have an ability to identify and solve engineering problem before they can reach the end customers.

Main Duties
1. Assist with the preparation of Drawing Office documentation (BOMs, Outlines, etc.)
2. Produce detail manufacturing drawings using 2D and 3D CAD. Consult with peers to resolve design or general drawing office problems.
3. Review and analyse specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas and related data to assess factors affecting a design.
4. Use established engineering principles and formulas to develop and prove a design.
5. Modify and revise existing designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems and cost.

Tools and equipment used:

MS Office, 2 & 3D CAD Solidworks systems, MRP system, Rapid Prototype Machine

Qualifications/education required:
• 5 GCSE’s (A-C) must include English, Maths and a Maths based Science subject.
• Minimum HNC qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline.

Experience required:
• Mechanical drawing & design experience.
• Proven knowledge of engineering materials and processes.
• Proven 2 and 3D CAD skills.
• Proven engineering drawing skills.
• Proven problem solving skills.
• A high attention to detail and clarity.

Specialist training required:

Training in the MRP and 3D CAD system will be available as required.
