The Initiatives Manager maintains a senior presence within the organisation and is the central hub around which all NPD project activities and stakeholders at all levels interact.

Though UK-based, the Initiatives Manager will spend extended periods of time in China or other areas of the world as necessary in order to fully support the successful delivery of their projects. This will typically include regular overseas travel, and may entail extended periods of working overseas for several months at a time.

Main Responsibilities:

Develop the NPD process:

* Suggest strategies to improve processes, shorten programme schedules, improve time to market, increase innovation, & increase productivity.
* Suggest developments & improvements to the NPD process to ensure continued effectiveness & alignment with objectives of the business
* Frame & communicate issues to drive transparent, effective & permanent decision making

Develop the project management processes:

* Suggest improvements to product management & project portfolio tracking tools, systems & processes
* Participate in assurance reviews of selected projects, with regard to project management practices, including requirements management, risk management, planning and control, and forecasted milestone dates.

Management of specific New Product Development (NPD) projects:

* Coordinate all activities from Initiative Proposal through to Production.
* Manage all NPD Checkpoints
* Support Product Marketing in the preparation of Trigger Document and Business Case
* Initiate and manage technical feasibility studies
* Requirements management – Ensures product and system requirements are adequately defined and testable; and, management of changes to requirements
* Risk management
* Manages the project scope, schedule & risk throughout the life of the project
* General project management activities including preparation of initial set-up & maintenance of project on SAP PPM system, Gantt charts, Product Design Specification (PDS), organising & chairing meetings, & working with Demand Management to plan product introduction to supply chain
* Monitor & report on project performance to key stakeholders through documented reports, presentations & other communication as necessary
* Monitors & adjusts the project plan to deliver the desired results
* Prepares for & drives project milestone decisions to ensure they are made in alignment with project timing
* Use NPD process to integrate technical & commercial project activities
* Utilisation of SAP PPM and Easy DMS system to manage projects and project documentation
* Preparation of Statements of Work for external partners / suppliers
* In collaboration with relevant departments, compile project sample requirements plan
* Liaise with & expedite supplier as necessary to fulfil sample requirements plan
* Plan, organise & complete Value Engineering exercises, utilising other personnel as necessary
* Work with supplier & other technical personnel to prepare overall New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing process plans

Qualifications & Experience


* Degree, HND or HNC in applicable Engineering discipline together with relevant recognised post-graduate professional qualification (CEng or similar).
* Completion of accredited engineering apprenticeship or engineering graduate training programme.
* Professionally qualified (C. Eng).
* Relevant experience in in applicable engineering role (preferably electro-mechanical or production engineering) or equivalent.
* Relevant experience in NPD Project Management or equivalent.
* Good knowledge and experience of project management planning tools, costing, manufacturing processes, business case creation, FMEA, risk analysis, change management, & other modern engineering systems, tools & methodologies.
* Proven ability to work at all levels within an organisation and to effectively engage and influence a diverse group of stakeholders in order to deliver results.
* Demonstrable experience of project leadership with ability to lead projects and teams without direct line management responsibility.


* Professional Project Management qualification (Prince 2 or equivalent)
* Good knowledge and experience of the Internet of Things, connected products, Apps, and cloud based systems
* Understanding / Proficiency in Mandarin
* Strong cultural awareness gained from living and/or working in the Far East
