The Role:
Our client requires a Senior Process (Chemical) Engineer with chemical and nuclear plant design experience to work in the Civil Nuclear area in connection with the design of gaseous waste treatment plant and equipment for a nuclear new-build project.
Specific experience and understanding of packed column design and operation is sought, and having an understanding of catalytic reactions and flame arresters will be advantageous.
As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be responsible for the specification, design and development of nuclear reactor fluid systems and waste treatment plants.
Our focus is on providing customers with integrated, long-term support services across the reactor lifecycle. This covers licensing and environmental support, world-class systems engineering and component design, manufacture and supply, in-service support and plant life extension.

Main activities:

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:

- Design and specification of systems, such as: radioactive waste treatment plants, pressure vessels and heat exchangers, packed columns.
- Production of deliverables such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), data sheets and procurement specifications.
- Involvement in design stages from identification of stakeholder requirements, generating and assessing options, Concept, Scheme, Front End, and Detailed Design, design substantiation and verification and validation.
- Provision of key inputs to reviews including: design, equipment sizing, quality, safety and environmental assessments and critical review, checking, verification and approval of in-house and third party designs.
- Preparation of technical specifications and reports, including optioneering assessments, design substantiation, installation, commissioning and operating documents.
- Liaison with suppliers (internal and external) to ensure systems and equipment is designed and supplied in accordance with project requirements.
- Use of a wide range of standard techniques to such as HAZOP, FMEA, SIL, LOPA, etc. to support arguments.
- Work with and lead other team members as appropriate.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience and expertise in the field of fluid systems (process) engineering and design, such as unit operations heat and mass transfer, separation and mixing processes, fluid flow analysis of thermo-fluid systems and chemical plant design.
- Experience in packed column design and operation.
- Experience in catalysed reactions and flame arresters would be an advantage but not essential.
- Experience of working within nuclear industry would be an advantage but not essential.
- A comprehensive understanding and experience of process systems / chemical plant design.
- Knowledge of the design standards applicable to the nuclear industry would be an advantage
- Membership of an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution would be preferable.
Technical skills: Chemical and Nuclear Plant Design, C&I. Knowledge of the UK regulations related to Waste Treatment.
Software and tools: Microsoft Word/Excel, CAD, Chemica
