Design Manager Responsibilities

Working as part of the team, reporting to the Engineering Director you will be responsible for the smooth flow into production of new product and right first time quality of product. Day to Day management of the engineering department and working with customers to develop seat covers and trimmed parts for Aerospace customers. You will also be responsible for ensuring that correct procedures are being followed in line with the quality manual. Other responsibilities will include:


* Working with the customers to take concepts through the design process and into production
* Review processes within production to maximise efficiencies.
* Manage NPI processes
* Review product for manufacturing processes
* Ensure that the efficiency of product flow through production is maximised
* Update regularly on development progress in management meetings
* Communicate internally any issues that will affect deliveries
* Review MRP system in terms of BOM, works order process, work flow and timings
* Assist in costings for new business/repeat business
* Working with Quality to resolve any quality pick ups
* Maintain and report on KPI dashboards weekly
* Ensure speedy resolution to production issues


* Manage the development department (currently 4 heads)
* Work with other departments to resolve customer queries
* Ensure MRP system is up to date

In order to be successful for the role of design manager, you must be able to function in a fast paced office located within a factory environment, proven product development experience in manufacturing soft furnishing production experience essential . You must also possess:

* Computer literate (Auto Cad, Solid Works, Gerber tec) and numerate with a keen attention to detail.
* The successful candidate will be committed and driven with the ability to function well within a small team and individually when required.
* Other key qualities are flexibility, accuracy, friendliness and the ability to interact well with other departments within a busy business environment. Good organisational skills
* Ability to prioritise your own workload.
* Previous experience of Aerospace or Rail seating and trimming
* You must also be able to work well under pressure,
* Good attention to detail Self-motivation and have a can-do attitude.
