Systems Architect – Framework development

This is an immediate requirement for an Architect or Principal Systems Engineer with experience of developing new architectures and methodologies.

A great opportunity has arisen for a Lead Engineer to work for a leading Systems Integration company in the South Wales area. This role will be leading a small team creating a new Engineering architectural framework in order to allow the company to work in an agile based environment. Being the first time this organisation has used an agile methodology. This represents a great opportunity to make a real difference to how the company operates.

Responsibilities for this role

- Development and documentation of Architecture using UML modelling tool Development and documentation of Solution Designs using UML modelling tool
- Development, documentation, verification and support for use by 3rd parties
- Development, documentation, verification and support of integration harness for use by 3rd parties.
- Work with external and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements and agree designs/solutions to satisfy those requirements.
- Undertake analysis of design changes to confirm feasibility and impacts on the system to inform implementation decisions.
- Work with specialist and support engineering groups (including security, safety, ILS, human factors) as required to validate designs with solution impacts considered.
- Management of external collaborators to ensure timely delivery of compliant solutions.
- Accurate and timely reporting of progress and escalation of issues to Programme and Engineering management.
- Present outputs of work, conclusions and recommendations at internal and external reviews
- Responsible for time management ensuring work outputs delivered to agreed schedule
- Present and demonstrate solutions to relevant stakeholders to gain feedback on the development activities and support future improvements.
- Oversee and contribute to integration and testing activities on prototype solutions to validate designs and ensure compliance with requirements.

Responsibilities That Are More Supervisory In Nature:
- Creates plans and processes for his/her area of responsibility by tailoring standard templates to the needs of the project. Assumes cost and schedule responsibility for a cost account/work package of reasonable proportions;
- Manages a group of technical experts. Assigns and outlines work to direct reporting.
- Reviews work for technical accuracy, adequacy, efficiency and overall performance of the individuals and the team.
- Perform performance appraisals.
- Participates in job interviews for more junior personnel. May also participate in interviewing at job fairs and for co-ops.

Requirements for this role

- Breadth of experience in a role that demonstrates technical leadership and application of engineering change skills with a track record of delivery.
- Demonstrates understanding of the engineering / IT lifecycle and phases, and challenges associated with system engineering in a delivery focussed, commercially successful organisation.
- Experienced in methods and tools for elaborating architectures and system requirements.
- Experienced in methods and tools for system modelling (SysML)
- A belief in and understanding of the benefits of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience in roles that demonstrate strong technical leadership
- Confident and effective dealing with Customers, End Users and 3rd parties.
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills as well as motivation, integrity, professionalism, flexibility, commitment and innovation
- Hold or be capable of holding security clearance
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills


Due to the nature of the work at this site, applicants must be capable of achieving SC level UK security clearance. Current clearance is not a requirement.
