An opportunity exists within the Vehicle Business Unit for a Senior Engineer -Vehicle Performance Simulation to deliver on-going client projects supporting a number of design and development programmes. The role involves using a range of simulation tools to predict fuel economy/ CO2 and vehicle performance metrics across a range of vehicle types and architectures. The simulation results guide the clients' product development and enable the interaction between different components/ technologies to be understood, whilst maintaining performance and cost targets. Job Duties: To deliver client projects:

To work on engineering activities for vehicle systems from prototype through to full series production on client projects. Simulate a range of technologies across different vehicle types and market sectors to define component sizing and high level control strategy development. Responsible for working closely with a design and development team to assess functionality and performance of inter-related vehicle systems. Preparation and maintenance of process documentation associated with the analysis. Interface directly with clients on technical issues, often working as part of the client engineering team at the client site or any one of the Ricardo offices. Liaise with suppliers/subcontractors to develop specifications and solutions. Work to client quality procedures and validation processes. Support the development of future products and services. Required Qualifications and Experience: The candidates would typically be graduate mechanical or electrical engineers with experience of simulation at an OEM or Tier 1. An understanding of system level component interaction is needed along with understanding of the use of simulation tools to determine powertrain hardware, performance and fuel economy (e.g. MATLAB Simulink, Open Modellica, GT Suite). > Minimum degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline (e.g. electrical and electronic engineering / mechanical engineering / physics / computer science / software engineering / maths / control engineering) > Able to work independently, setting task priorities to deliver the required project deliverables on time > Strong teamwork, organizational, oral and written communication skills > Must be able to communicate and make presentations with a high degree of clarity, having the ability to write and deliver technical presentations to both internal project teams and clients, at gateway and management reviews. Desired Qualifications and Experience: It would be beneficial, but not essential if the applicant had some experience or knowledge in the following fields: • Modelling of other 1D networks including lubrication, coolant and thermal as required to support system specification tasks • Demonstrated experience working with cross functional teams • Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail • Knowledge of MS Excel and the MS office suite (including some coding in Visual Basic) is also an asset.
