Our client has been established for more than half a century and specialise in the sourcing and distribution of highest quality fresh FMCG produce to customers throughout the UK and Europe, employing more than 250 people and having numerous sites across the country. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and proactive Operations Manager to have full operational control for an entire plant and encompassing engineering and maintenance, Production, Operations, Warehousing, Logistics, output, personnel and Hygiene within a seven-acre production facility with up to 500 staff and a 7/24-shift operation.

Based in Birmingham and reporting to the Operations Director, as Operations Manager you will be responsible for establishing efficient production processes for all the company’s product lines and will play a hands on role in the management, motivation and direction of the operations, engineering, warehousing, logistics and production workforce. You will implement and manage systems for the ordering of goods and raw materials that minimise stockholding quantities yet are suitably timed to ensure uninterrupted production of all the company’s product lines in keeping with the market demand for each product, and will carefully monitor the market demand and production volumes of the company’s product lines in order to draw up efficient production schedules.

You will also seek new ways to improve plant production efficiency and cost effectiveness and implement lean manufacturing processes on an ongoing basis, whilst overseeing the maintenance and servicing of production lines to minimise down times and maximise the efficiency and working life of all production equipment and machinery. Additionally, you will be responsible for the training and motivation of all production staff as required and provide regular production information and performance reports as well as ensuring that shifts are manned appropriately and efficiently and operational cover is maintained.

To be considered for this diverse and extremely challenging role, you will be IT literate and demonstrate experience of Health and Safety, supplier management, man management and motivation within an FMCG environment.

Essentially you will be an analytical thinker with effective Planning and Organisation skills and an adaptable and flexible approach within a busy production environment. Committed to ongoing continuous improvement and lean strategies, you will be an effective communicator at all levels and realistically degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline with at least 5 years’ production experience gained within an FMCG environment.
