Deputy Shift Manager

to c£30k + benefits - (Rotating Shifts 6am – 2pm / 2pm – 10pm)

Our client has been established for more than half a century and specialise in the sourcing and distribution of highest quality fresh FMCG produce to customers throughout the UK and Europe, employing more than 250 people and having numerous sites across the country. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and proactive Deputy Shift Manager to manage and control all aspects of a busy shift production operation.

Reporting to the Shift Manager, the successful Deputy Shift Manager candidate will be responsible for a designated production area in terms of product quality, line performance, machine setting and the 1st stage of maintenance in a department that consists of approximately 80 staff and with 22 direct reports.

Other responsibilities will include the planning of training and support training in the division to ensure correct skills are available for efficient line operation, and ensuring your team understand your objectives and the role you play in the production team.

As Deputy Shift Manager, you will hold daily meetings involving supervisors and line leaders and will manage the performance and conduct of your team whilst ensuring relevant policies and Health and Safety legislation are adhered to. You will also measure people KPIs such as attendance, time keeping, performance and skills and report on progress to your Shift Leader, and will closely monitor yield and material usage in order to improve yield and measure all waste and causes of waste.

Additionally, you will plan your manning levels to include appropriate machine operation skills and carry out autonomous maintenance with your team whilst being aware of the production plans requirements, holding Daily Review Meetings and identifying and measuring causes of loss on line including downtime.

To be considered for this diverse and challenging role, you will be IT literate and demonstrate experience of Health and Safety, supplier management, man management and motivation within an FMCG environment.

Essentially you will be an analytical thinker with effective Problem Solving and Planning skills and an adaptable and flexible approach within a busy production environment. Committed to ongoing continuous improvement and lean strategies, you will be an effective communicator at all levels and realistically either degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline or with at least a Certificate in Supervisory Management with at least 3 years’ production experience gained within an FMCG environment.
