Our aerospace client is looking for a Safety Engineer to work within the Safety Engineering team as part of the Chief Engineer’s Office. Our client is seeking an aerospace engineer who wants to make an impact, guiding the design of new products and supporting our legacy safety critical systems. These include state-of-the-art Weapons Carriage and Release systems, Air-to-Air Refuelling equipment and refuelling probes. In this role, you will go through structured training and attend relevant courses relating to safety lifecycle activities, including safety assessment of aircraft systems, safety requirements, hazard identification and analysis, risk evaluation and analysis, hazard management, safety approval processes etc. You would be joining a team of five Product Safety Engineers at their headquarters in Wimborne, Dorset.

Ideally applicants will have proven Safety experience and background. However, consideration will also be given to candidates who have a strong Engineering Design background gained within Aviation or Aerospace, as the Safety Engineering Team are willing to develop a suitable candidate through safety training where possible.

The Product Safety Engineering Team is involved in conducting safety analysis on all systems produced at Wimborne, from identifying safety requirements through to conducting system and equipment level assessments, to demonstrate compliance and drive design changes.

The breadth of coverage provides an exciting opportunity for an individual to develop both systems and safety engineering knowledge. The selected applicant will work as an integral part of the Product Safety Engineering Team to develop a world class capability in safety interpretation, analysis and compliance.

As a Safety Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

* An aerospace background, aerospace degree or equivalent.
* Experience in the design of equipment for civil and/or military aircraft.
* Knowledge of the safety assessment techniques in SAE ARP 4761; and awareness or experience in MIL-STD-882, DEF STAN 056 or FAR/CS 25.1309.
* Experience in systems engineering principles.
* Knowledge of the following would be beneficial, but is not essential: ARP 4754, RTCA DO-178/254, MIL-STD-1629, CSs and FARs.
* Attendance on established safety related courses advantageous.

Additionally, consideration will also be given to candidates that can demonstrate the following skills and engineering competence:

* An aerospace background in mechanical or electrical/electronic product design
* Knowledge of reliability prediction techniques and awareness of safety process inputs
* Knowledge of the Engineering Design Review Lifecycle
* Strong analytical skills, particularly in product or systems operation and performance
* Ability to understand and analyse complex technical problems
* Personal integrity, interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

As a Safety Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:

* Production of safety documentation in line with project requirements and criteria.
* Close liaison with the Design Team and related engineering disciplines in support of producing System Safety documentation in line with project milestones.
* Administer Hazard Identification and Analysis team meetings.
* Attend project meetings in support of safety.
* Lead and report in meetings with the customers (some international travel may be required)
