Role: Senior to Principal Flood Risk Engineer/Hydraulic Modeller

Location: London

Salary: £50,000 (negotiable)

I am looking for a Senior to Principal level Flood Risk Engineer to work for a large, multidisciplinary consultancy’s London office. The consultancy’s environmental team is looking to replace a senior member of staff who is moving overseas. Candidates with the right skills will be seen as a priority, ideally being placed as quickly as possible. The role features a range of 1D, 2D and some 3D modelling in fluvial, coastal and urban environments.

Ideally, candidates will have working knowledge of ISIS, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS (or similar) software, though the large teams operate using a range of software depending on the project. Capability to design using the Flood Estimation Handbook to estimate local flood risk and develop resilient infrastructure is also highly desirable.

Team leadership skills are also highly desirable for this role, as you will be mentoring more junior employees as well as maintaining some technical oversight on their workloads. As such, professional membership of either the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is highly desirable. Further, some project management skills are desirable, with the ability to maintain budget controls and ensure delivery within set timeframes.

The firm has a high workload thanks to a strong relationship with many of London’s local authorities, as well as other government bodies such as the Environment Agency and a range of private clients both nationally and internationally.

You may have been operating at a Senior level for some time and looking to take a step up, or already operating at Principal level and looking for your next opportunity.

Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modelling in fluvial, coastal environments (1D, 2D and 3D)
  • Software: ISIS, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS (or similar)
  • Experience managing own projects and other engineers/technicians
  • Membership of either ICE or CIWEM (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH)
