Hours: Monday – Friday (37 hours per week)

Job Role:

The Company are makers of the finest lawn mowers for over 70 years. Many models are designed and made in Hertfordshire, England to this day.

They are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join their team based at their Spellbrook Site in Bishops Stortford. Reporting directly to the Principal Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer or Engineering Manager, you will be required to produce Engineering design and analysis of a new product or revised product. Reviews test and customer data, determines the causes of failures and develops appropriate solutions. Executes a project plan

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 Lead and coordinate the development of electrical components and subsystems. Creates design that satisfies the product requirements as outlined in the product specification and resolves design problems.
2 Performs engineering analysis to predict the behaviour of the proposed designs. Analysis tools may include closed form solutions, or electronic simulation programs. Computing tools may be from calculators to computers.
3 Develops product design plans including budgets and schedules. Executes to plan and assists in control of project.
4 Consults with other product design engineers, marketing, research engineers or mechanical designers on proposed product designs. May be responsible for work direction of designers, drafters, contract/consulting personnel, and others.
5 Works with vendors to finalize designs and implements, in hardware, the needs of the product application. Develops specifications and working agreements with vendors. Helps assure that the vendor meets the requirements of the design.
6 Performs functions as required by established engineering procedures including project requests through engineering release and change management procedures.
7 Assures that designs meet the requirements of the customer as defined by safety and any applicable industry or company standards.
8 Senior and Principal Engineers may supervise designers and engineers which includes election, training, discipline, performance appraisal, salary review, setting and monitoring objectives and other related tasks in
9 Support of engineering project goals and objectives.
10 Actively participates in the development and understanding of customer requirements through direct contact with marketing, customers, service, manufacturing and distribution.
11 Coordinates work with the product development team members such as but not exclusively: Shop, Test, Drafting, CAE, Quality, Marketing, Purchasing, Plants, Advanced Manufacturing, Sales, Technical
12 Responsible for drawing package, bill of material, and product specification. Responsible for the building of prototypes.
13 Works with test engineers and technicians to develop tests, which simulate the requirements of the customer. Evaluates test data and develops design revisions to solve problems.
14 Keeps abreast of new technological developments, components, concepts, materials, manufacturing processes, or competitive environment, which would affect the design or design process.
15 Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

* Travel to test sites, distributors, customers, vendors, manufacturing facilities, and others will be required.
* Ability to work with others in teams to accomplish goals. Includes task and/or project leadership.

SPECIFICATIONS:

* Bachelors or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical or Agricultural engineering required.

Grade 11: Plus at least one year experience preferably in the powered equipment industry. Successful completion of EIT requirements is desirable. Must be able to create and analyze portions of the product design as assigned when given direction and leadership.

Grade 12: Plus a minimum of three years’ experience preferably in the powered equipment industry. Successful completion of EIT requirements is desirable. Must be able to create and analyze component or complete product design with individual initiatives. Must be able to direct the work of drafters and designers. Has demonstrated a high level of productivity with competency in the execution of duties.

Grade 13: Plus a minimum of five years’ experience preferably in the powered equipment industry. Professional Engineering license desirable. Must be able to direct activities of engineers, designers, drafters and supports groups, such as Shop and Test personnel. May supervise designers and engineers. Has demonstrated competency in creativity, productivity, and decision make and problem resolution through successful completion of projects.
