About the Role

Our Energy client is seeking to grow their power distribution team due to an influx of new projects and their growth strategy. They work on world class innovative projects both regionally and internationally. We're seeking Engineers to join our clients teams in Godalming, Manchester and Glasgow. Our definition of the role of a Distribution Engineer is intended to be a developmental role where some previous electrical experience is built upon and focussed into the Electrical Power Distribution area.

This area of business covers electrical power utilities or industries with power systems up to a voltage level of 132kV.

The role will require design, project engineering or project management skills & experience which would have been gained over a minimum of 3 years post graduation. It is expected that experience in some of the following areas will have been gained:-

* Technical and/or project management capability associated with electrical power distribution systems at voltages up to 132kV. Specialised skills in plant and equipment, OHL, cables or protection, SCADA systems would be an advantage.
* Ideally experience will have been gained in a project delivery environment within a Distribution Utility, heavy industry, consultancy, design house or major contracting environment.
* An understanding of UK CDM Regulations will be an added advantage.
* Other relevant engineering delivery experience in a design house or project engineering environment.

Role and Duties:

The above skills and experiences would be used in a combination of the following technical areas:-

* Prepare studies, designs, reports and tender/contract documentation to be carried out in accordance with relevant codes of practice, standards, regulatory authorities and clients’ requirements. All under a suitable level of Supervision from a Senior Engineer.
* Carry out appropriate reviews of submissions from contractors and provide review reports.
* Participate in technical meetings with clients and contractors.
* Provide specialist knowledge input and keep up to date with the latest developments in particular fields.
* Keep a diary of events, record and programme time spent on each task and maintain technical records.
* Assist with the preparation of bids.
* Assist with the adjudication of tenders, including participation in contract negotiations.
* Instigate the authorisation of invoicing and/or payment, when carrying out duties of Project Manager.
* Be willing to make the necessary travel, either overseas or within the UK in order to carry out project requirements.
* Establish test procedures and plant and equipment manufacture and installation programmes.
* Assist in the testing and commissioning of plant and equipment.
* Assist in the Investigation of breakdowns, failures and designs and carry out other special investigations.
* Ensure that all duties are carried out according to the company’s Quality Systems Procedures.
* Working towards Corporate Membership of an appropriate leading UK Engineering Institution.(IET)
* Liaise with staff from other business units and groups.
* Promote the interests of the company, for example through personal contacts, representation on professional groups, contributions at meetings and the publication of material where opportunities arise.

About You

Ideally candidates should have some proven experience in several of the following areas and be willing to develop:-

* Leadership of multi-disciplinary power systems projects
* Industrial power system design, including technical and cost assessment of options
* Distribution and/or transmission power system planning and design
* Experience of specifying key electrical equipment parameters
* Electrical system design and setting calculations
* Commercially available power system analysis packages
* Other relevant design engineering background
