The Successful candidate will lead the quality activities in the department, responsible for ensuring the quality of engineering design and development activity on a variety of vehicle development programmes. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in a dynamic department and organisation, supporting a variety of project based work

The role will include the following key responsibilities

* Ensure customer quality requirements are clearly understood and communicated to the project team
* Lead and facilitate the creation and development of DFMEAs and related documentation to a high standard within the scope of the project and to the required timing
* Mentor and train engineers in the use of quality tools, work to propagate and champion best practice across the project and department
* Report and track programme
* Ensure that required data on open quality issues is updated on time in project issue-tracking systems
* Present the status of documentation and issues in team and project meetings
* Organize and lead cross functional problem solving teams through root cause identification, verification and corrective action steps including preventive actions
* Utilize resources from appropriate departments to ensure effective, timely cross-functional problem solving
* Track quality issues and test failures, working with component owners, suppliers and other stakeholders to facilitate their fast and effective resolution

Support the delivery of parts into production through the APQP process, supporting suppliers in producing PSW and other documentation to achieve PPAP requirements

The Candidate

The successful applicant will be highly self-motivated, with good leadership and communication abilities. They will have 5 to 10 years automotive experience, with experience and understanding of the NPI process and strong recent experience in leading problem resolution activities and in applying a range of quality tools to meet industry best practice. The job involves substantial interaction with other engineers; hence the ability to collaborate and communicate well on a technical level is important. They will be comfortable meeting new customers and developing relationships, operating within the vehicle engineering team, and working closely with suppliers and customers to robustly deliver engineering programmes.

Must Have

* Degree qualified or equivalent in engineering or other relevant subject

* A minimum of 5 years automotive experience leading the application of quality tools and techniques
* Experience and understanding of the NPI process from Concept Design through to Product Launch
* Experienced and expert user of DFMEA and related quality tools
* Experience of leading issue resolution activities using a range of tools including root cause analysis, 8D problem solving resolution and auditing
* Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
* Pragmatic approach with good problem solving ability
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels
* Strong presentation skills
* A leader and team player
* Confident and robust character with a drive and motivation to succeed
* Thorough with good attention to detail
* An ability to work under pressure and tight timescales to resolve high-priority issues

Should Have

* Working knowledge of the Five Core Tools
* Experience of JLR or Ford Engineering processes
* Technical knowledge of vehicles, engines, chassis, transmission and driveline systems
* Good task management and organisational skills
* Good written communication skills
* Usual MS Office skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
* High degree of flexibility and willingness to travel
* Clean driving licence

Could Have

* Knowledge of QFD
* Six Sigma qualification
* Experience of ISO 9000/1, TS 16949, Ford Quality Operating System
