* Development of a compliance management framework for oversight of regulatory compliance [people, processes, procedures, systems reporting]
* Development and delivery of a rolling programme of compliance, asset risk and information reporting assurance reviews across the water and wastewater wholesale services
* Leading , in collaboration with other parts of the water and wastewater wholesale business, to design and implement mitigating controls
* Ensuring appropriate controls are in place and designed to mitigate risks and ensure the effectiveness of these controls through regular testing
* Liaising with senior managers in all aspects of activity, ensuring all issues are appropriately logged in line with process
* Defining and leading the assurance testing approach relative to the key risks of the water and wastewater wholesale business
* Coordinating, analysing and reporting the results of assurance testing, providing timely reports on findings to key senior stakeholders and executive management team
* Carrying out process and information investigations and assurance as required, including those for submission to key regulators
* Supporting regulatory audits or investigations as required inc. management of external resources as appropriate
* Making recommendations for changes to controls, remediation or full process reviews based on assurance testing results
* Support and continuously improve water, wastewater and regulatory compliance documentation of business processes - information management, compliance reporting, asset lifecycle processes

Key skills/knowledge/qualifications/experience: Critical requirements of the job

* Significant experience in a senior role within either; external or internal audit, or within an established compliance team
* Relevant degree/professional qualification
* Experience of developing business processes, business controls, governance and assurance
* An in depth knowledge of developing and applying business processes, governance, information management, commercial management controls to continuously improve. Ideally, this knowledge and experience would have been gained in a previous senior management role.
* An understanding of risk management: its theory and application.
* An excellent communicator, able to articulate succinctly complex issues to senior internal and external decision makers through written reports and presentations
* Previous contract management experience e.g. with external providers of audit or assurance
* Experience of developing and managing cross functional teams with a track record of achievement
* The ability to effectively challenge senior colleagues to adopt best practice systems and processes to deliver best value performance and to be comfortable under challenge.
* Knowledge of the wider utility sectors to identify best practice both outside and inside the organisation, and the tenacity to implement such initiatives and realise the benefits
