Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Fuze Capability include supporting our current portfolio of products, developing and testing new products, and supporting the procurement of bought-in products.

Initially the role is to execute projects in support of the existing fuze product portfolio and to assist in the development and implementation of new fuze products (NPD and NPI). The role will cover many phases of the engineering lifecycle, from the detailed design of sub-systems, integrating them into a larger system of systems, then conducting tests on the design to international defence standards and supporting the design of manufacturing processes.

The role requires a broad range of skills and knowledge to effectively work within the Fuze Capability; however a particular focus is placed on knowledge and experience of electronics, electro-mechanical systems and ideally explosives. The role requires a balance of practical and theoretical approaches to effectively conduct the engineering activities in support of projects.

An innovative system integrator, albeit at a sub-system level, the successful applicant will also be required to communicate at several levels within the business and with the customer. A good knowledge of Engineering lifecycles, risk management, requirements management, product testing and product acceptance will also benefit the successful candidate.

Responsibilities may include the following:

* Working closely within an integrated Engineering team.
* Planning and subsequent delivery of Engineering Tasks.
* Design and implementation of new technologies that add value to the business.
* Preparation of test specifications for product acceptance.
* Design and manage tests.
* Compilation of technical data to support design approval.
* Monitor and advise on technical activities at external suppliers.
* Technical reporting.
* Support production staff to deal with product technical queries, test and advice on quality.
* Liaison with engineers in other teams and other stakeholders to ensure integration of fuzing sub-systems at product and platform level.
* Respond to external customer technical queries.

Requirements:

* A multi-skilled project engineer
* Design and system integration of electronic and electro–mechanical systems
* Hands on practical experience of building electronics at component level, including soldering
* A high degree of safety awareness and methodology is demanded, e.g. Risk Assessment
* Appropriate training may be available in specific areas, e.g. safety in working with explosives
* Occasional off-site working may be required to manage tests and liaise with suppliers or partners
