The System Integration Lead will be engaged within the Homeland Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection domain of Leonardo in the UK with a focus on large scale strategic integrated Security Surveillance and Control Systems including Electro-Optic and Radar Sensors and Command and Control software. We are currently running major programmes to provide civil site and area protection solutions at national scale and protecting critical infrastructure assets worth £B.

The System Integration Lead will be responsible for the integration of our solutions in theatre, in order to meet the customer technical requirements. Working closely with customers and directing the engineering team they will grip the solution end to end to ensure that our delivery is compliant with user needs, aligned with Leonardo strategy and delivers the high quality, highly capable and effective solutions for which we are known.

The successful candidate must have proven and extensive experience in all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle of a solution which includes requirements capture, design, analysis/modelling, integration, test and acceptance, with emphasis on extensive hands-on experience on integration, test and acceptance. The candidate will work within Leonardo’s engineering delivery model which provides a controlled and supportive framework for the achievement of excellence in system design and Verification & Validation.

Key Responsibility Areas

* Engagement with customer, suppliers, product teams and other stakeholders to define the overall solution.
* Creating and gaining agreement to top level solution documentation including solution presentations and system architecture/design documents.
* Managing issues with the design, negotiating across the team, suppliers and where appropriate the customer to reach equitable and mutually acceptable conclusions consistent with Leonardo principles.
* Ensuring that technical requirements are correctly flowed down to subsystems / subcontractors for all elements of the solution (these requirements will include Customer requirements, international and national standards, customer and industry technical standards etc)
* Ensuring that design integrity requirements (activities and deliverables) are correctly flowed down to subcontractors and internal providers (including design reviews, certification, safety data, stress analysis etc)
* Design Integrity of the overall solution, supported by domain experts in product safety and stress and where appropriate by subordinate Design Authorities for subsystems or other specific aspects of the solution; gaining agreement from the Independent Technical Authority.
* Presentation of design reviews for the overall technical solution to both the customer and the Independent Technical Authority.
* Creation, Review and approval of Integration Test Plan and formal System/Sub-Systems Customer Acceptance Test Plan
* Leading system/sub-system fault finding and integration troubleshooting activities in demanding timescales
* Technical acceptance of subcontracted and internal sub-elements of the overall solution.
* Certification of the overall solution and sub-elements thereof including engagement with customer and other stakeholders for acceptance.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge

* Highly experienced at systems engineering and systems integration.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Domain knowledge in at least 2 of the following technologies – Surveillance Radar, Electro-optics (CCTV and thermal Imaging), Command and Control System Software, ICT and Networked systems
* Demonstrable competence in leading the development and implementation of complex technical solutions, making engineering decisions, mitigating technical risk, and ensuring best practise is shared.
* Demonstrable understanding of product safety with experience in conducting / supporting safety reviews and hazard identification and management
* Demonstrable competence in conducting and supporting design reviews of complex solutions
* Demonstrable ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex technical issues
* Demonstrable competence in identifying non-customer requirements that are nevertheless crucial to the design integrity of a solution
* Familiarity with the concept of design certification including its importance in managing personal and corporate liability

Intrinsic Job Factors: This role would generally be office based with regular travel to customers and suppliers in both the UK and abroad.
