Principal Electronics Engineer

This is an immediate requirement for a Senior Electronics Engineer or Principal Electronics Engineer with experience of coding FPGA’s with VHDL.

A great opportunity has arisen for a Hardware Engineer to work for a leading Electronics design company in the High Wycombe area. This Hardware Engineer role will be working across a number of new products being designed for both the UK and export markets. The Electronics and Electrical team works on a wide variety of projects, with designs from high speed digital electronic platforms to wired cabinets. Engineers in the department are involved in all phases of development including bid support.

The ideal candidate will have experience of VHDL (about 60% of your time) but also have a good generalist background in Hardware development.

Responsibilities for this Electronics Engineer role

- The Electronic Engineer works within a project team to complete designs on time and to budget.
- Foreground activities include schematic capture, PCB layout, firmware (VHDL, embedded C) and review.
- Conceptual designs of solutions to System level problems would be necessary, which may include rapid prototyping to de-risk some aspects of a wider problem.
- Cable design and wiring schedules may also form part of the day to day workload as well as documentation.
- Conceptually designing electronics solutions to complex problems, and present these designs for feasibility reviews.
- Recognising and estimating the levels of effort required to implement solutions identified above.
- Demonstrate a high capability and understanding of the use of FPGAs and Firmware solutions, and recognise the limits of such.
- Leading and supporting the solutions for high bandwidth, multi-channel data processing systems, designing for and implementing with FPGAs and VHDL.
- PCB design using computer aided design tools, schematic design and PCB layout.
- Providing design solutions for electrical/electronic equipment, taking into account EMC design.
- Production of design documentation (include technical and design proving reports/CE compliance and Product Test Specifications)
- To represent the Company in meetings (Internal and External) and to provide minutes as appropriate.

Requirements for this Electronics Engineer role

- Implementation of complex designs in firmware for FPGAs.
- Design of data handling systems for use with FPGAs.
- High speed digital design
- Ability to specify hardware requirements to support their designs.
- Knowledge of Electronic Engineering best practices and common pitfalls.
- Broad knowledge of Electronic Engineering methodologies, processes and tools.
- Working knowledge / appreciation of Systems, Software and Mechanical engineering.
- Knowledge and understanding of design for manufacture.
- Knowledge and understanding of full project life cycle.
- Knowledge of fundamental commercial and financial issues.
- Knowledge of fundamental project management practices (e.g. Planning estimating, risk management et al).
- Experience in design for EMC & signal integrity including schematic design and PCB layout
- Experience in the definition, design prototyping and commissioning of electrical subsystems including PCBs, Electronics racks / cabinets, cables and other electronic assemblies.
- Experience of component selection and an understanding of associated issues to include obsolescence.
