Purpose of Job

Provide instrumentation engineering support to the Build and Test Department. This will involve calibration, maintenance, fault finding, fault resolution, specification, design, build and commissioning.

Duties

Support users of the test facilities:

Calibrate sensors and other equipment, with a focus on defining and implementing best practice techniques.

Specify and design bespoke electronic instrumentation or control equipment from first principles. Then build, install, commission and produce engineering documentation for this equipment.

Install and set up instrumentation equipment in an efficient and proper manner, based on a sound technical understanding of the equipment and its functionality.

Maintain and repair instrumentation equipment. This will be achieved through following structured fault analysis techniques and by having a thorough understanding of electronics.

Select and purchase new instrumentation equipment, based on an understanding of the technical and functional requirements.

Liaise with clients, suppliers and contractors.

Identify opportunities to improve the instrumentation and calibration services offered to the business.

Support the upgrade of the instrumentation equipment within the test facilities.

Qualifications

An engineering HND in electronics, control, instrumentation or any other relevant discipline is required. A degree is desirable

Skills and Experience

Experience, in-depth knowledge of and ability to work with complex electrical and electronic instrumentation and electromechanical equipment.

Experience, in-depth knowledge of and ability to calibrate sensors.

Experience of undertaking project based work within an engine, rig or vehicle test environment.

Able to write and debug simple programs in C/C++/VB.

Self-motivated, conscientious with the ability to communicate effectively and work either unsupervised or as part of a team.

Good problem solving skills.

Safety conscious.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Well organised, good planning skills and an eye for detail.



Experience in the following areas would also be advantageous:

· microcontrollers

· control engineering principals, e.g. PID tuning

· electrical CAD packages

· PC hardware and networking
