Contract: Permanent

I am looking to place a Senior/Chartered Structural Engineer in a modular-build design consultancy’s London or Birmingham office. The role is for a Lead Engineer who can develop a team of other engineers, with experience of modular or volumetric structural design.

The firm has signed a 5-year contract with a major modular fabricator using a new hot and cold steel bonding method that results in incredibly light but durable steel structures. Previous experience of design in this method is not a requirement, but experience of conventional modular design is i.e. the firm require someone who can calculate load requirements and design beams/connections for light steel frames. This is a technical role that would suit someone who has experience and interest in the area of modular design and fabrication. Previous projects are across all structural sectors such as residential, education, healthcare, commercial, hotels, etc.

This post is for someone who can lead other engineers, and offers the quick advancement to Associate level for candidates who demonstrate the right work ethic and capabilities. This role does feature the capacity to work remotely for some portions of the working week, though trips to oversee other technical designers and mentor more junior engineers at the Midlands and London offices will sometimes be required.

Ideally, candidates will already be chartered, or near to achieving chartered status, with the IStructE or ICE. The role requires sign-off duties that will require candidates to eventually move towards attaining chartership, though the firm can help in this area for those who haven’t quite achieved this goal.

Job Requirements:
  • C.Eng IStructE/ICE (desirable)
  • Relevant education
  • Modular/volumetric structural design experience
  • Light steel frame experience
  • Beam/connection design + load bearing calculations
  • Commutable proximity to Birmingham/London
  • Team leadership/mentorship experience
