Welsh Government
Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales

The Welsh Government is advertising for a dynamic individual with exceptional leadership qualities for the role of Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to shape and influence the future policy direction for science and engineering and to set clear outcomes for the benefit of Wales.

We are seeking to fill this senior civil service role through a secondment on a full time basis, although applications on a part-time basis will be considered but the successful candidate  must be willing to commit a minimum of 3.5 days a week. Appointment will be up to 4 years. (You will retain your existing terms and conditions of service including salary)

The Welsh Government is the devolved Government for Wales, responsible for a wide range of policy areas in which science plays a part. A central ambition of the Welsh Government is to build a stronger economy.  Our objective is to build a strong and vibrant science base that supports the economic and national development of Wales.  There has been an on-going effort to raise the profile of science within Wales and within the Welsh Government, and we have run successful programmes of delivery aimed at increasing Wales’ science and research capabilities in Wales.   The new CSAW will build on this base by placing a particular emphasis on enhancing the provision of scientific advice in Welsh Government decision-making across all its business areas and, looking to maximise future opportunities at both a National and International level, thus strengthening collaborative efforts between Government, Universities and industry in respect of science, research, skills and innovation.
